You get what you pay for, right?  When it comes to compound bows, that was all too true years ago.  Basic "entry-level" bows were largely bare-bones junk, with plastic bushings in the cams, painted-on camo jobs, clunky magnesium risers, and the cheapest available hardware.  They looked terrible and they shot even worse.  Back then, if you wanted to shoot a really "good bow,"  you had to shell out a pile of cash. 

Fortunately, the junk-bow days are virtually gone.  There's just no place in the market for low quality bows.  Compound bow buyers have become more savvy, more discerning, and they simply expect good quality and performance - at any price point.  So we're not surprised that the new 2012 Bear Encounter makes a big first impression at just $299.

The Encounter is a fully machined high-performance bow that features dual sealed ball-bearings in the cam and idler, an integrated string suppression system, pivoting limb pockets, and a gorgeous Realtree APG camo finish.  But that's not what makes the bow so impressive.  Our team tested this bow in October 2011, and we were very surprised by the Encounter's exceptionally smooth draw cycle and outstanding shooting manners.

This bow is just fun and easy-to-shoot.  With a straight neutral riser and a thin 2-panel style grip, the Encounter is very forgiving and comfortable.  There's plenty of let-off, so you can hold it back as long as you need to, and at the shot there's very minimal recoil and vibration.  We spent quite a while evaluating the new Encounter, and we all seemed to concur.  There's nothing cheap about this bow but the price!
