While Darton's cam technology continues to power about half the bows on the market today, Darton brand bows seldom see center-stage. Darton bows tend to be celebrated primarily as a local brand in Central Michigan, where they have a loyal and passionate following - almost like a secret club. Of course, we always sneak a peek when we can. We never miss an opportunity to admire and test-shoot Darton bows at the trade shows. But somehow we never end up in the Darton club - until this year.

At this year's ATA Show, we took a long hard look at Darton's scalding fast DS-3800. We shot the bow over and over. We examined and tested the bow in every way just short of taking x-rays. We admit, we were practically trying to find something wrong with it. But in the end, the truth was undeniable. Darton is heading to center-stage with this bow. The DS-3800 is one of the hottest performance bows we've ever evaluated. Inching further out on the limb here, the DS-3800 is almost certainly the fastest 6" brace height bow on the market for 2012. We simply had to have it for our RTH program.

The DS-3800 isn't supposed to be soft and cuddly, so we wouldn't go so far as to call the DS-3800 draw cycle buttery smooth. It's aggressive, but reasonably so with good transitions, an adequate valley and a full 80% let-off. At the release, there's very little drama, with noise quickly arrested by the string stop and only a touch of forward limb thrust felt in the grip. We simply can't deny that the DS-3800 is prime time.  The DS-3800 can easily stand in there with the best of the high-profile superbows.  We're sorry about upsetting the private club, but you guys in Michigan are just going to have to share the Darton DS-3800 this year.  It's just too good to stay a regional secret.
