A bow's PHYSICAL WEIGHT is the weight of the bow without any accessories - the weight of the "bare" bow. Today's parallel limb bows commonly weigh around 4 lbs. - with 3 lbs. being considered exceptionally light, and 5 lbs. being considered exceptionally heavy.
Some bow buyers are very sensitive to a bow's physical mass - others don't seem to notice a few ounces one way or the other. To keep things in perspective - a little Marlin .22 Caliber Rifle weighs about 6 lbs. So compound bows are still lighter than even the most basic firearm - even after being setup and accessorized.
